Opening Weekend at Northstar Resort for 2007-2008 Winter Season.
Whats happening! I just spent a full day riding some of the "get into the groove," jibs and jumps at Northstar. There’s a killer down box, followed by a mellow box to box transition that was so much fun riding (board slid on this thing like a knife cuts through warm butter). I was really trying to get spinarific on this box to get the ultimate feeling back, and because it was so smooth. There’s also this great little stair feature with a choice of a box or rail, great for a nose/tail tap. Man, I can't wait until the Madix Stair Feature along with the 60-70 foot booters are complete on Moonshine! Mother Nature will smile upon us and deliver some great natural snow, I am confident of that. It was amazing how well of a job the grooming and snowmaking team did with the terrain we had available. I heard a rumor that Pinball might be opening in a couple of weeks as long as it stays cold—don't tell until I know for sure.
I hike up snowy mountains with my dog everyday I am not working before I head up the hill. If you haven't went riding with your dog, you've got to try it, it is amazing how well they can swim through powder and keep up.
I usually take her hiking on groomed runs and throw the tennis ball down the hill until she is exhausted(it is much easier for me that way, jk).
I started riding 4 years ago mostly in Northstar’s stellar Terrain Park and really started pushing myself after the first season. I love entering local competitions—especially the Pinball rallys at Northstar. The terrain park guys really do a killer job with these events. If you hit up the park at Northstar, find me on the hill. I love to take laps through the park with just about anyone who can ride well. I'll be totally blue, rocking my headphones and having a good time.
I plan on riding at least 120 days at Northstar this season. Especially since it is part of my job. What can be better than getting paid for what you love to do? I couldn't come up with a good answer, so I decided to work and ride all at the same time. I am one of the snow reporters for Northstar this season, along with my buddy, Reva. She rocks, used to work with race teams, and amazingly knows almost everyone here—and it is her first year working up here! She came all the way from Minnesota and has been in Tahoe for the last 3 years (maybe that’s why she knows everyone). If you see a die-hard female skier passing everyone down Burnout on the Backside, it’s probably Reva.
I worked in the season pass office for the last couple of years, which was cool because I got some ride breaks and a free season pass. There are some really awesome characters in the ticket/pass office, so when you’re picking up your ticket or pass, tell them I said hi. I love this resort and if you are ever interest in working in this kind of industry, you should definitely check out Northstar, I have met some of the coolest people I've ever met here.
Stay tuned… I will keep sending you updates on the slopes! My name is Chris, and you can find me on the hill. Lets take a couple of laps through the park or in waist deep power on Lookout! Feel free to contact me, my email address is chunton@boothcreek.com
Yeah! You go Chris! Great blog and awesome information. Tell the boss to give you a raise!
