Sweet Park Lines and Groomers Everywhere!

Our Grooming Team has been really doing a great job churning some of that hard pack snow into soft fresh corduroy overnight lately.  As you know, they always do a great job!  The Terrain Park has been killing as of late as well, we now have parks set up in 5 different locations and that is not even including The Stash.  Keep up the good work guys!  We are offering some of the best skiing in North Lake Tahoe right now with over 80 trails, 16 lifts and just in general, “A Good Day on the Hill!”  I’ll be cruising around today and should have another video ready for you by the end of today or tomorrow morning.

Fresh Corduroy Everywhere!

The mountain is skiing great right now!  Grab a grooming map and find some of that fresh corduroy if you want to make some nice turns.  The Grooming Team was able to get 80% of groomable terrain groomed overnight making for some sweet ski conditions.   If you are heading up today, I recommend starting your day by cruising up the Tahoe Zephyr and taking Sodegren’s first, then The Gully.  These trails are a couple of my favorites early in the morning.  I think they turn out so well because the sun actually shines on the freshly groomed corduroy before it opens for skiing.  After that you know the drill, following the sun and the groomers is a great way to plan your day on the hill.  We have all kinds of events coming up, so be sure to keep up to day by checking out the events calendar regularly.  I put together a few clips for your enjoyment, keep checking back for new updates and videos.

Having A Good Day!

Clear blue bird sunny skies, mild temps, and light winds make for a great day to be out on the hill!  The Superpipe is nearing completion with the expected opening next week, probably Tuesday.  We also have full park lines with small, medium, and large terrain features on Pinball, Sidewinder, and Moonshine.  We are talking over 50 features alone on these three runs!  Don’t forget about The Stash, it is hard to count how many different features are open through the all natural terrain park because there are so many things hidden in the trees waiting to be discovered.   I sat over on the Tubing Hill yesterday for a while and watched some families really have a great time flying down the hill, it is worth taking the ride if you’ve never been tubing before.  I plan on checking out the new T.G.I.T Thursday specials in the Village at Northstar tonight.  There will be dining and drink specials along with live music!  Other than that the forecast is staying pretty consistent for the next few days, so come on up and let’s rip some fresh corduroy.

Clear Sunny Skies, Fresh Snow, and Mild Temps!

The conditions are more than ideal for just about any level of skier or rider at Northstar Resort right now.  I was on the slopes all Sunday and Monday, you couldn’t keep me out of the trees.  Today’s forecast is looking great; we are expecting clear sunny skies, a high near 42 degrees, and light winds.  It is one of those days where calling into work might not be such a bad idea unless you already called in earlier this week. We also have well over 50 Terrain Park Features set up on Pinball, Moonshine, and Sidewinder today, not to mention numerous features in The Stash.  Here is a quick clip of the current snow conditions, I’ll have another update for you by the end of the day and hopefully a better video.

It is Snowing at Mid-Mountain!

We have seen 13” in the last 48 hours and more snow is expected throughout the next couple of days.  As for accumulation totals, still a little hard to tell because this storm seems to be fluctuating and is ever changing.  At this point we should see the jet stream continue to cut south which will drop our lows even lower and let some of the lingering precipitation turn into very light fluffy powder.  My favorite!  The temperatures have even dropped almost 5 degrees since I got in this morning at 5am, and that will continue through the week.  Snow should be sticking as far down as the valley floor and snow accumulation totals will be more substantial above 6,000 feet.  The radar is what we are expecting tomorrow morning, so hopefully everything stays on track.  Please be careful on your travels up to the Tahoe Area, we’ve seen a considerable drop in temperatures and there are still many hidden pockets of black ice out there.  Grab your board, skis, and winter preparedness kit and we’ll see you up here taking a few fresh turns.

The Storm Doors are Open!

Snow is on the Way!  We are anticipating a fair amount precipitation tonight and even more throughout the weekend with this trend continuing throughout next week.  Since I’ve been here this morning, more precipitation has been projected, and the snow levels have dropped almost 500 feet!  We could potentially see 1-2 feet of heavy snow by Sunday, which will be packing a punch or precipitation.  “You know, the kind of snow that makes for a sweet base!”  The prospective for next week is looking really good as well, it is kind of hard to make snow total predictions too far out.  If the lows of the storm cycles continue to linger on the coast, we’ll see more and more precipitation building throughout the week, possibly adding to the snow accumulation as well.  If you want to check out a really good and detailed forecast for the mountains, BA’s is the one your going to want to look at.

Mellow Yellow Rocks!

We had a stellar performance by Northstar’s very own Mellow Yellow Band!  They definitely were getting the good word out about safety, and really rocking it up at mid-mountain while doing so.  We are all about educating safe ski/riding habits this week, but live it everyday here at Northstar.  Not only was Mellow Yellow putting on a great show, The Terrain Park Crew was hosting their Highest Ollie Competition at mid-mountain as well.  Remember be smart, be safe, and always stay in control when hitting the hill.  Both events were very entertaining, click the picture below if you want to see some quality entertainment.

National Safety Week

It is National Safety Week at Northstar Resort, we have a whole line of events and activities planned throughout the week.  This year’s slogan is, “do you part, slide smart.”  We are expecting nothing but clear sunny skies, light winds, and with 82% of groomable terrain groomed overnight things are shaping up nicely for the day.  I can tell you from my own personal experience, if wondering where to go for the best ski conditions, the general rule is follow the sun.  The Tahoe Zephyr area gets the most sunshine early in the morning and generally have some of the better conditions earlier in the day.  I would suggest taking a few different groomers, like my personal favorite Sodegrens for a warm up run.  Lookout is usually really good around 11:00am, from there the whole mountain is soaking up the sun and making for some really sweet skiing everywhere.  Don’t let the lack of snow lately fool you, the skiing and riding is still really good on the North Shore.  We are expecting some precipitation later next week to help knock out this warm front and allow the storm doors to open once again.  The Terrain Park Crew now has features set up on Sidewinder, Moonshine, Pinball, and The Stash.  They’ve been averaging at least 3 new features every night and changing up the Pinball line as well.  The Superpipe progress is coming along very rapidly, especially when we get the cold snow-making temperatures.  I hope to see you up here today giving it your all in the Highest Ollie Competition or just up here checking it out.  Click the picture below if you want to hit a few jumps and boxes with me.

Sun-Filled Fun at Northstar Resort

There are some great spring ski conditions to be had at Northstar right now. Temperatures have been cooperating, so the snow is holding better than expected.   Even knowing we are on track for the driest January since the early 1920’s, the snow is holding up and conditions are surprisingly really good.  We were lucky to have built such an incredible base throughout December, don’t worry snow will be on the way before you know it.  We are still sitting on a very good base and the temperatures are cooperating for some ideal ski conditions.  I have a new video for you starring myself and a few friends including Chris, Danny, and Keith, sorry no audio in this one.  Check back at the end of the day or tomorrow morning for another update.

Springing into Saturday!

Well, after taking a few runs bright and early this morning, things are looking great up on the hill.  77% of groomable terrain was groomed overnight and let me tell you that corduroy this morning was sweet!  We are expecting to see mostly sunny skies for the next week with day time temperatures ranging from the mid to low 50’s.  The Burton Am Series is happening today on Pinball, the competition should be starting sometime around 11:00am this morning, give or take.  I’ll try to get a little footage, because there will be some talented individuals giving it their all today.  So come on up and check us out this weekend, click the picture below if you want to take a run down Homerun with me.
