Top-to-Bottom!

Well, this November is definitely one to remember! We haven’t seen this much snow before Thanksgiving since 1997! It’s a welcome sight, and is allowing us to open top-to-bottom today – all 2,280 vertical feet!

Are your powder legs ready? We’ve had 93” of natural snowfall since Friday night! The temps are cold today – negative 4 to start the morning, brrrr! The temps will definitely keep the snow in good shape though, and will offer you powder turns through the holiday weekend, so what are you waiting for? Get up here and enjoy it!!!

Daily lift tickets are available for $77 for adults, $62 for young adults and seniors, and $35 for child and super senior. If you’re looking for a way to save, Value Season Vouchers can be picked up at participating ski and snowboard shops in the Bay Area, Sacramento and Reno. Turn the vouchers in at the ticket window to purchase a $61 discounted lift ticket!

Oh, and did I mention more snow is in the forecast for next weekend?!! RAD.

Mother Nature Rocks!

What an incredible way to open the season! Our snowmaking, grooming and terrain park teams put out a great offering for opening day, and then Mother Nature decided to help out and offer up 48” in the past two days! It’s still snowing lightly, and we’re opening more intermediate and advanced terrain today off of the Vista Express lift.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for steady snow through Tuesday, and the totals they’ve indicated continue to be impressive – 3-5” today, 3-5” possible tonight, 1-3” Monday, 3-7” Monday night, and 2-4” possible Tuesday! Following that, the temps are supposed to get even colder, which will keep the snow in great shape for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend!

The plan is to continue to open more lifts and terrain into the coming week – we’ll be sure to keep you posted!

In the meantime, if you haven’t yet made your Thanksgiving plans, why not come up and take advantage of the incredible early season conditions! We’ll even have sit down Turkey Day dinner options you can take advantage of if you don’t want to cook at Baxter’s Bistro & Lounge and at Manzanita at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe. Take out dinner options will be available from Earthly Delights (though you have to reserve in advance!).

Snowmaking + Grooming = Opening Soon!!!

Well, there’s no denying the season is literally right around the corner. The groomers got out on the mountain today for the first time this season and started pushing out the piles of snow the snowmakers have been busy making! The trails are taking shape and it’s looking really, really good for opening day (Nov 20) – just a little more than a week out!

We’ll have some more solid details to share next week with regard to what trails and lifts will be open, but terrain park features are already staged and ready to be set up, and our crew is working their magic to offer you the most incredible early season conditions on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe!

C’mon Mother Nature… Lay It On Thick!

Mother Nature made an appearance last night and left 6-8” behind at the summit, and 2-3” at mid-mountain! Temps are forecast to remain low – especially at night – throughout the week, so we’re planning to continue making snow at every opportunity to prepare for the season!

Has your countdown started yet? Ours has! We’re aiming for a Saturday, November 20 opening, conditions permitting, and if these temps stick around, that should leave us in incredible shape when you arrive.

If you haven’t already picked up your pass, don’t miss out on the Heavenly/Northstar pass – for just $379 you will be skiing or riding Northstar, Heavenly, and for this year only, Sierra-at-Tahoe, too!

Snowmaking Has Begun!

Yep, you read that right… Temperatures cooperated last night and our snowmakers got busy for the first time this season! The forecast calls for cold temps again tonight, and our plans is to continue to make snow at every opportunity.

Has your countdown to the start of the season begun yet? Ours sure has! We’re still aiming for Saturday, November 20 as our opening day, weather and conditions permitting. Lots to do to prep the mountain in advance of that, and we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop.

So… start doing those snow dances, click into those bindings in your living room, whatever it is that you do to get ready, because the season is coming, and it’s coming fast!

Winter Prep Begins…

Well, we may still have this weekend to go with summer operations including the Bike + Hike park and the Golf Course, but we’re already starting to change gears and get ready for the winter season… We’re just shy of a month away from our scheduled opening date of Saturday, November 20, 2010 (weather permitting).

Winter Weather on the Way!

Well friends, the summer sure wrapped up quick! Fall is upon us, and the weather has changed dramatically from this time last week. All of the forecasts we’ve seen so far are pointing to this being a La Nina winter that could be very coooold!

So… when are we gonna start skiing and riding you ask? Well, we’re shooting for Saturday, November 20, 2010, weather and conditions permitting. Stay tuned, and get your gear tuned, waxed and ready to go!

Get It While You Can!

Only 4 more days for the winter season at Northstar after today and spring weather is heading in for the last weekend!  It has been such a great year with these incredible cold storms then straight to spring, we couldn’t ask for more.  I think all the positive attitudes and big grins have been my favorite part of the season, yeah a good vibe is even better than the lightest powder.  I don’t believe in not having any friends on a powder day, all you really need to do is find someone near your ability level.  Sorry I haven’t updated in a few days, been a little under the weather unfortunately.  Hope you like the video, a few friends and myself took some stash and park runs.

There has been too many great days up to count, generally everyone remembers that one great powder day, but if you are any what of a regular I’m sure you got a few more than a couple.  Right?  I obviously cannot take any more guesses for the season snowfall total, but right now two of you are very close.

April Fun in the Sun

Northstar Resort is now at 412 inches for the season! 62 inches over our annual average!!! Come catch a few rays with us and enjoy these amazing April conditions. You can buy next years Double Whammy Season Pass and take advantage of the rest of this season as well!  We have seen 60 inches of fresh snow in the last 7 days with some great days for skiing/riding still ahead of us.  I hope all of you are getting your craziest costumes together for this weekend’s Spring-It-On pond skim and of course the 140 foot long infinity box.  I highly recommend starting your day in the Northwest Territory this week, take a ride up the Tahoe Zephyr and follow the sunshine.  The Backside and Lookout will probably stay very fast until sometime around 10:00am, then start to soften.  You really need to remember the sunscreen this time of year and be sure to wax those skis and boards.

I am going on my 112th day of riding this year and it has been such a great year!  The footage in the video above was taken on Saturday, imagine 22 additional inches on top of the already great conditions shown.  If you were here Monday then you know exactly what I’m talking about.
